Strode College: Heart of the Campus
In 2020, Strode College commissioned ArchitecturePLB to undertake a strategic study and scoping exercise for the provision of a new Student Hub facility at their campus in Street, Somerset.
The college required a new ‘Heart of the Campus’ to provide the College with a clear identity and a bold welcoming new frontage. The new 3,800sqm building rationalises the community-facing facilities (currently compromised by being dispersed across the campus), bringing these together in a comprehensive suite, showcasing the College and linking with the existing community theatre, run by the college.
The new Hub centres on an internal street, bringing together the theatre, student services and also the Learning Resource Centre and an associated spectrum of social learning spaces. There is also a new Refectory and a new expanded Art department, freeing up space in other areas of the campus to enable the expansion of other departments.
