Itchen 6th Form College Projects

ArchitecturePLB were appointed by Itchen 6th Form College to undertake a ‘campus visioning study’, in the summer of 2022. We carried out analysis of the existing campus, identifying opportunities for rationalisation of existing spaces, refurbishment requirements, and opportunities for increasing capacity, including potential locations for new-build elements. A number of key projects were identified, and an approach to phasing was agreed with the client.

We were then appointed to develop detailed proposals for the first of these projects:

LRC Refurbishment (£500k)
The existing LRC was underused and inflexible. Our proposals opened up the space, reconnecting with main circulation routes within the college and providing new, dedicated study spaces and staff accommodation.

Art Block Refurbishment and Expansion (£1m)
Our proposals dealt with serious accessibility issues within the building, whilst also reordering spaces including a photography studio and providing increased capacity through extension and redistribution of teaching spaces. The proposals were granted planning consent summer 2023.

New Teaching Block and Sports Hall (£2.5m)
Located on the edge of the existing playing fields, the new teaching block occupies a prominent location within the campus. The two-storey block contains a 2-court sports hall, changing rooms and an additional 7 general teaching classrooms, within a contemporary ‘pavilion’ design. The scheme was completed in 2025.
