South Hampshire College Group

Following the 2023 merger of Eastleigh College, Southampton College, and Fareham College to form South Hampshire College Group, ArchitecturePLB has been appointed to deliver a comprehensive development programme across the three campuses. The merger created one of the region's largest further education organisations with duplication of functions, requiring strategic estate rationalisation to support the group's ambitious educational offer.

At Eastleigh College, ArchitecturePLB delivered four new Centres of Excellence in Business and Finance, Health and Social Care, Bricklaying, and Electrical Installation. The Health and Social Care Centre features a fully equipped healthcare ward and elderly care mock flat, whilst the Business and Finance Centre includes a specialist boardroom, office spaces, and interview rooms simulating professional environments. The Electrical and Bricklaying Centres provide industry-standard training facilities with advanced equipment reflecting modern workplace technology. These immersive learning environments bridge the gap between traditional classroom settings and industry workplaces.

Designed by ArchitecturePLB and delivered by SM5 Developments, the South Coast Institute of Technology features cutting-edge facilities including IT classrooms with dual screens, specialist tech labs, virtual reality rooms, and collaborative breakout spaces. The initiative provides flexible post-16 technical education pathways from T Levels and Higher Technical Qualifications through to apprenticeships, degrees, and professional qualifications.

At Fareham College our work focussed on the 1980’s C Block which required substantial fabric upgrades both internally and externally. The entire building was re-roofed, improving it’s thermal performance and reducing overheating, while the central ‘mall’ was given a new lease of life with the removal of redundant plant, a new colour scheme, flooring and lighting.
