The Handle Bar Cafe – A SPUD Youth Project

Date posted: April 9, 2015

This week our Winchester studio has provided workshop space for the SPUD Youth Group, as they finalise designs for their proposed Cycle Cafe project. The SPUD Youth Group was set up by Mark Drury with the intention of providing an opportunity for budding new designers to engage in real life design projects.  The proposed design will re-appropriate a decommissioned train carriage situated on a national cycle route to provide refreshments, seating and a cycle repair shop to the passing crowd.

The final designs will be unveiled to Winchester City Council in the coming weeks, with initial feedback being very positive. ArchitecturePLB and neighbouring firms MACE and ARUP have been on hand to provide conceptual and technical advice, while University of Portsmouth students kindly offered workshop assistance. ArchitecturePLB wholly support SPUD’s venture and believe the well thought-out scheme will be of added benefit to the local community.
