The new Pimlico Academy replaces the existing Pimlico School on the same site to address Westminster City Council's concerns about the existing 1960s building being able to accommodate future requirements of both the school and local community. Constructed by Bouygues, and with a capacity of 1262, the new school caters for 1050 pupils, a 200-place sixth form and a 12-place specialist Speech Language and Communications needs unit, as well as providing a new home for Pimlico Library and a new local centre for Westminster's Adult Education Service.

At Walthamstow School for Girls the Grade II Listed building was sensitively refurbished and extended to provide new specialist accommodation for 900 pupils. New and old are connected by a multi level, glazed foyer with folding screens that allow drama and assembly spaces to be linked together, creating an exciting sequence of flexible learning spaces. The design, constructed by Bouygues, achieved BREEAM 'Very Good' and won a 2011 BCSE Design Award.

As part of Bouygues Partnership for Education and Community, Kelmscott School has been refurbished, extended and remodelled, to improve both the image and the functionality of the existing school, and its identity within the community. A new street runs from the highly prominent new entrance, linking existing buildings and new performing arts, catering and dining facilities, and providing an easily legible circulation axis through the school. The project won the PfS Best Design for a Remodelled School Award in 2008.

Barnfield West is a new build, 8-form entry Academy for 1450 pupils aged 11-18. Originally appointed by Luton Borough Council and novated to Wates Construction, our design was borne out of extensive consultation with both client and the wider school community. The fully glazed, double height entrance atrium provides welcoming views into the heart of the school, showcasing the Academy's specialisms. The building has been awarded a BREEAM 'Very Good' rating.

The redevelopment of Eastlea Community School has involved reconfiguration of the whole campus, comprising both new build accommodation and extensive refurbishment to a series of 20th century buildings and historic Victorian Board school. A new main entrance, remodelled and refurbished general teaching accommodation, and a new dining and art wing have transformed a disparate group of buildings into a legible, secure campus. A rolling phasing and decant programme has allowed the entire campus to be upgraded with minimum disruption. Additional community functions have also been incorporated, including an enterprise café part-funded by Thames Gateway.

St Matthew Academy for Business and Enterprise is a new build all-through Academy on a constrained site, catering for 1320 pupils aged 3-16. At the heart of the school, the assembly hall is a focal, celebratory space for the whole community, reflecting the Christian values of both the client and the Sponsors, the de la Salle Brothers. Energy conservation influenced form and massing, with top-lit atria and courtyards to maximise natural light and ventilation.



Every school has its individual context, ethos and aspirations. As well as supporting a complex learning community, school buildings also have the potential to act as an important civic focus. Our designs respond to a school's particular vision and circumstances, to create learning settings that facilitate and inspire, supporting young people in achieving their full potential.
