St Clements Surgery, Winchester
Completion Date due late 2013
Contract Value £2.4m
Client Winchester City Council
This project is for a new 1600sqm general practice medical centre and pharmacy in the heart of Winchester, including car parking and bike storage. Due to its location in an historic setting and amidst buildings of varying scale, the scheme presented many challenges. Our solution steps down in scale between commercially-scaled buildings and a small residential street. Clinical spaces are arranged around an internal, double height courtyard waiting area, which looks out onto a small, landscaped public square, giving a pleasant entrance to Upper Brook Street. Careful zoning allows the ground floor to also function independently as a surgery on weekends.

Completed 2012
Contract Value £2m
Client Radian Group
Sunfield Close in Andover was a competition-winning scheme for 17 affordable rent and shared ownership homes, designed to meet CfSH Level 4. ArchitecturePLB's award-winning design addressed the sensitivities of building on this constrained, formerly communal site, with an arrangement that maintains views across the site whilst creating privacy and minimising overlooking. Contemporary in design, the green roofs and timber clad pods are reminiscent of the former allotments and sheds that previously occupied the site.

Centre, Hampshire
Completion Date 1999
Contract Value £1.7m
Client Winchester Cathedral Enterprises
Won in limited competition, this scheme formed part of a masterplan to accommodate increasing visitor numbers. The first phase included the conversion of a Grade I Listed, 17th century coach house to provide a new visitor entrance, retail, offices and dining space. The second comprised a single storey, lightweight timber-framed building, used for functions and meetings. Within such an historic setting, great sensitivity was required to balance the new with the fabric of the existing building.
